A CHARGE DISMISSED.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

GISBORNE, Monday,

In dismissing a /charge of vagrancy against a man alleged to be a bookmaker's assistant, and to. be always loitering about the street, Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., said:

"I suppose the Legislature, in passing section 20 of the Police Offences Act, 102 C, gave it some consideration, but if it were applied as it could be applied, God help thl community. I cannot support a position that gives the police the right to bring a man before the Court oh such a charsre as this, which has the effect of assuming the man is guilty before he is .proved innocent."
