THEFT OF MOTOR TYRE.
DAIRYMAN FINED £5
A dairyman, Frederick Douglas Stacey, was in the dock at the Police Court this morning on a charge of stealing a motor rim and tyre, valued at £2 10/0, belonging to A. E. H. Cornish.
Mr. Allan Moody, for accused, who pleaded not guilty, said that Stacey while on his rounds on the morning of March -31, found the rim and tyre on the road, and he took them home with him. Later one of his tyres burst, and, being short of money, he replaced it with the tyre he had found on the road. Counsel admitted that Stacey had certainly converted the tyre to his own use.
Constable White, of Newmarket, who received the complaint about the rim and tyre, which had been removed from the rear of Cornish's motor truck while it was standing oytside his business premises, said that he found tlie tyre on accused's delivery van. The rim was at his house.
Stacey, said Mr. Moody, was a married man with three children. His record was a clean one.
Stacey was fined £5, and was given 14 days in which to pay.
