BARON KIHACHIRO OKURA.
(Australian and X.Z. Press Association.) (Received 12 noon.) TOKYO, April 22. Baron Kihachiro Okura, aged 91, a notable business man and financier, is dead.
Kihachiro Okura, the Japanese industrialist and financier, president of Okuragumi, Ltd., was born in a remote village in Echigo as long ago as 1537. He was the son of a poor fish dealer, ami at first worked for his father. He is said to have been the first Japanese to start a European talinging business. In 1872 he made his first .visit to Europe and America. Two years later he opened in London an office for the purchase of goods. Thanks to his army of contracts in connection with various Japanese campaigns, notably the war against China in 1804-95, and the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-05. he amassed great wealth. One of the richest men in Japan, he was created a baron in 1915. and received many other distinctions. In 1926 he had a bddyguard to look after his possessions in Mongolia and a princely retinue.
