The Ashburton Trotting Club's autumn meeting was held in fine weather and before a larger attendance than usual. The 'course was good. The totalinator handled £17,738, as against £16,887 last year. After the fourth race, B. Jarden was lined £5 as a result of a dispute with the gatekeeper. He was also ordered to apologise, in default one month's*, disqualification. Surprises By Back-markers. Jolly Pet was a strong favourite for the Durbar Handicap, with the PantoHonour Bright bracket second choice. Vesuvius took charge at the start, followed by Chimer and Genuine, who were joined by Great Actress, Fashion Queen, Jolly pet, and Epigram at the end of half a mile. Vesuvius- 'led Epigram to the straight, with a big bunch handy and Dalmeny moving up. Dalmeny was in second place a hundred yards from the post, but broke and Vesuvius beat him by two lengths, with fourth" 1 ' W ° away ana Genuine

Favourite Never Sighted. Pretty Pointer was favourite for the Harvest Handicap, but was never sighted. King Abdallah Boon opened out a gap from Lady Minto and Young Author. Half a mile from home Transport was second. King Abdallah easily held his place, and won by six lengths from Vikota, who took second place in the straight. Logan King arrived late to finish third, with Transport fourth. Pay Out On Three Horses. June de Oro and Joan Dillon (coupled) carried most money in the Autumn Handicap. These two, with Florrie Pointer, Warrenore, and :>ugh Neagh, were the leaders most of the way. Florrie Pointer led to the straight, but a good finish saw June de Oro beat her by a head. Warrenore was two lengths away, with Val Logan next. The winner started in the first race, but was never prominent. Fine Victory from Back Mark. New Metford was a little better backed than Reta Corena and Molly Molloy for the Utility Handicap. Brent Boy led for over a mile, and then broke, Reta Corena £oin» on in front with Lonesome, Oval being next. Len Wood was fourth six furlongs from home, and second to the straight, where he wore Reta Corena down, winning by three lengths. New Metford came with a late | run to get third, twelve lengths away. Daimeny Placed Again. The Arran Chief-Kulnine bracket was favourite for the Rakaia Handicap. Hustler was soon in front, but at the end of five furlongs Dillon Gold joined him, with Jackie Audubon next. Dillon Gold and Jackie Audubon led Dalmeny to the straight, where Jolly Pet joined them, and a great finish saw Jackie Audubon beat Jolly Pet by a neck.
