CITIZENS' COMMEMORATION.

AUCKLAND SERVICES.

OTAHUHU MEMORIAL TO BE UNVEILED.

Anzac Day will be observed as a close holiday in Auckland, the principal service being a citizen's commemoration, to take place at th£ Town Hall at 11 o'clock. Before the service there will be a parade of territorials and exservicemen, and at noon the GovernorGeneral will assist in a ceremony at the cenotaph. In the afternoon the Mayor will preside at a service at Waikumete, and a commemoration by secondaryschool children will be held in the Town Hall.

The overflow from the 11 o'clock service in the Town Hall will be accommodated in St. Matthew's Church, where a commemorative service of a similar nature will be held. An evening service will be broadcast from St. Matthew's, commencing' at 7.30 p.m. At both the morning and evening services the "Dead March" will be played and the "Last Post" will be sounded by a trumpeter.

The Anzac Day parade will include six sections, the point of assembly being on the Queen's wharf. Bands to take part will be Auckland Artillery, First Battalion Auckland Regiment, No. 1 Regimental District Senior Cadets, Salvation Army, Port Auckland and Auckland Waterside Workers.

Among the organisations to place wreaths on the cenotaph will be the New Zealand ex-Service League, which has arranged to have a six-foot wreath made as a tribute from its members. The Victoria League will place laurel wreaths and rosemary on the soldiers' graves at Waikumete in the afternoon.

All the suburban and country districts have arranged to hold services. At All Saints' Church, Ponsonby, a combined service will be held at 7.30 p.m., when an address will be delivered by the Rev. Arthur Mitchell, minister of St. John's Methodist Church, and at Papr.toetoe there will be a combined service at 11 a.m.

Anzac Day in Devonport will be commemorated by a special citizens' memorial service in the Victoria Theatre, commencing at 7.30 p.m. The Mayor of Devonport, Mr. E. Aldridge, will preside, and will speak on "Anzac and Citizenship." The Rev. J. F. 'Martin will also address the gathering, taking for his topic "Anzac—A Name for the Nameless." Miss Phyllis Gribbin will sing two solos, and a special orchestra under Mr. C. Woods will lead the singing of the memorial hymns. The clergy of the borough will all assist in the service. A wreath from the Mayor and councillors will be laid on the Devonport Memorial Statue at 10 o'clock in the morning. Outside the city the most important commemoration of the day will be the procession and unveiling of a memorial at Otahuhu by His Excellency, the Governor-General.

The procession, to be headed by the Municipal Band, will include members of the Returned Soldiers' Association, nurses, territorials, cadets, boy scouts, girl guides, school children, the Mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd) and members of the Borough Council, the Fire Brigade, lodges and citizens. Leaving the Otahuhu School at, 2 p.m. the procession will make a halt at the corner of Avenue Road and Great South Road to place a wreath on the memorial of the Anglican Church.

The memorial service will be held on the site of the Nixon Monument, where a memorial in the form of an equestrian figure has been made as a gift to Otahuhu by Mr. A. Trenwith. The roll of honour contains 45 names. Before the unveiliiig His Excellency will deliver an address.
