ENCOURAGING TRAVEL.
RAILWAY DESCRIPTIVE BOOKLETS. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. What is described as the first o! a series of booklets on travel by rail in New Zealand has been issued by the Railway Department, describing a journey from Auckland to Wellington. The Di-pcrtment is following a long-estab-lished precedent on other systems, which m»r.v years ago made the discovery that ran way journeys need not be rega-ded as routine affairs, tmdertaken only when absolutely necessary. This well-pro-duced booklet suggests that the administration realises the possibility of induc:~g travel for the sr.ke of the interesting things to be seen en route. On the Auckland Wellington journey the traveller soon runs into country teeming with historic interest, and this arpert is adequately covered in tae Department's booklet. Modern developments are also detailed, and some of the important towns described and illustrated. There is also a short history of le Main Trunk railway, and a general survey of the scenic attractions of the. who;o Dominion. The next route for literary attention is not stated.
