SYDNEY LIBEL ACTION.
NEW TRIAL GRANTED. SYDNEY, April 2.
The Court to-day granted the application of Mr. Silas Y. Maling for a new trial of his action against the "Sunday News" for alleged libel, in which he was awarded one farthing damages.
In the action referred to in the message Mr. S. Y. Maling, manager of the electricity department of the Sydney City Council, claimed £20,000 as damages th " ""tbTl! & the jury returned a verdict for plaintiff and awarded him one farthing damages. The action arose out of a series of articles published in the paper dealing with the administration of the Town Hall. On the - following day the judge refused an application for a certificate of costs on behalf of
plaintiff, but granted U application for a atay of proceedings, with a view to plaintiff appealing against the verdict. .. - —^
