The authorities at Canton discovered elaborate plans for a Red rising and have arrested the ringleaders, Communist farmers and peasants, who had planned an attack on Canton from three sides. Martial law now prevails and the city is quiet. —(Sydney "Sun.") U.S. SATISFIED. NANKING SETTLEMENT. (Received 9.30 n.r/:.) WASHINGTON, April 2. Mr. F. B. Kellogg, Secretary of State, declared that the Chinese Nationalist Government's proposed settlement of the Nanking outrages controversy negotiated by the Minister, Mr. W. G. Macmurray, was acceptable to the United States.
