ROWING.
CHAMPIONSHIP RACES. The water conditions were splendid on Saturday when six of the Auckland Rowing Association's championship races were decided over the course from Orakei to the eastern tide deflector. The other championships were decided at the Rangirirl Regatta. The entries were disappointing, the largest number of crews to contest any event being three. A good start was made, but the programme got a long way behind time before the final event. Mr. ,G. H. Reston kindly placed his launch at the association's disposal. Mr. W. Madden was starter and Mr. G. Jonson acted as judge. . Junior Pair Oars (Association Caps and Certificates).—North Shore (M. McCallum, E. Harvey) •1, Auckland 2. Won by one and a-half lengths. North Shore led from the start Maiden • Pairs (Marriner Cup, Caps, and Certificates). —Waitemata (C. P. Belton, G. Barker) 1, Auckland 2. Won by one and a-half lengths. H Senior Fours (Caps and Certificates). — Waitemata (T. Johnson, L. B rooter, N. Doubleday, A. M. Mackay) rowed over the course, St. George's, the only other entrants, being too late to start. . Handicap Single Sculls and Marshall Cup.' D." Davies (North Shore), scr, 1; W. Woolhouse (St. George's), 355, 2; W. Lowe (Waitemata),, 355, 3. Won comfortably by three lengths. Maiden Double Sculls and Connelly Cup.— St. George's (V. Hargreaves, M. Simons) 1, Auckland 2. The winners took the lead at the start apd easily maintained the advantage to complete the .season with an unbroken record. . Junior 'Double Sculls (Capg and Certificates).—St. George's (V. Hnrgreares, M. Simons) 1, Waitemata 2. Won easily by four lengths.. Auckland failed to complete tne course.
WEST END CLUB. THE PRESIDENT'S TROPHIES. ; There was a large gathering of friends and supporters at the West End Rowing Club s boathouse on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of President's Day, when pn "At Home" was held. , The heat crews were:—W. Bloxb&m, f; Norden, K. Macey, O. Parvin, F. Matthews (cox); O. Felton, G/ Conway, F. Conway, L McDonald, W. McCarthy (cox). Felton won by a length. The second heat crewa were:—-J. Skinner, G. Dowling, J. Stratton, P. 6oafflot, J. Stowe (cox); J. Haylock, V. McFarlane, B. Such, M. Taylor, F. Orrell (cox). Skinner won by halt a length. In the final, Felton got tne better of the start and quickly took the lead. The leaders increased their advantage to over * length at the urn. In the straight skinner challenged, bat Felton'B • crew responded and won by half a length. , Coxswains' Race.—G. Dowling, M. McCarthy, a. McDonald, M. Conway, L. McDonald (cox) beat F. Orrell, D. McDonald, J. Stowe, I. Matthews, J. Stratton (cox), by just over half a length. The course was from the red house to the boathouse. Veterans v. Coxswains.—This race nas rowed over the short course, the veterans conceding the coxswains a length's start. The race ended in the veterans' favour by The crews were :—Veterans : B. Culpan, W. There were seven starters, the boathouse ' rom t ' le P etr ®i wharf to the TAURANGA CLUB. The Rowing Club held its closing day "At Home on Saturday. There were present a large number of friends and supporters, and several jery keen races took place. Crews competed for a valuable cup recently presented to the club for annual competition. Rowing conditions were good, though in the anal, with a change in the tide, the water was rather rouch. The final was won by C. Randle (str), W. T»^f n t r i? *5' Al,e y <-). and J. Plummer (bow), Max Hamilton (cox), i Clinkard, a vice-president of the club, in presenting the cup to the stroke of tne winning crew, referred to the excellent season which the club has had, remarking particularly on the splendid regntta performance of the junior four (C. Tonkin, W. Turner, C. Hana, and G. Lindell). Cheers were given for the donor of the cup and for the lady friends of the club. REED CUP CONTEST. (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREI, this day. The semi-finals in the Reed Cup contest were rowed on Saturday. J. Tiernev. scratch defeated T. Clarke. 4s, by a length a J"L and T. Mclntyre, 6s. beat D.
