ATHLETES' DAY OUT.

PROFESSIONALS AT DOMAIN. ARMY AT CARtAW PARK. KING'S ANNUAL MEETING. Cyclists and runners, 160 of them altogether, provided some excellent sport on the Dotpain on Saturday afternoon in the eventii . promoted by the Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club's big carnival. There was a crowd of 3000 present and soma exciting races were witnessed. The crack sprinter, F. B. Toms, from Otahuhu, did not And the ground to his liking and he was not running as well as usual' However, after giving S. Ball 8} yards in the 100 yards forced handicap he was only beaten by inches in the fast time of 10s. It Was distinctly unfortunate that Auckland's crack cyclist, J. H. Barcourt, did not have the opportunity of competing against O'Shea and Henderson from Christchurch. Harcourt was brought down by Pelham in the first heat of the half-mile cycle handicap and sustained a broken collarbone, having to go to the hospital. O'Shea and Henderson were unplaced in the shorter events, but in the longer races they shone out along with Slater Hayes, of Auckland. O'Shea, who is now in his fortieth year and must be acclaimed as the best wheelman the Dominion ha* ever produced, won In brilliant fashion the two and three miles handicaps from scratch. For the track, which was not to his' liking, his times were exceptionally good. The kiddies and the old-timers were not forgotten and races were staged for their benefit. On the whole, it was a good afternoon's sport which the large crowd greatly enjeyed. Results HALF-MILE CYCLE HANDICAP. First Heat.—F. Lowndes, 80yds, 1; D. Story, 65yds, 3. KINO'S COLLEGE SPORTS. GATHERING AT MIDDLEMORE. No records were broken at the King's College annual athletic sports at Middlemore on Saturday, but in many cases the standard of running waa high. The senior championship waa won by Meikle, and the junior by Hargreaves 11., who annexed five of the cup events and was placed in every one. No fewer than 150 boys started in the mila open, which went to Shaw, off 15yds. In the 880 yds school championship. Brown was within one second of the record of 4.39 4-5, established in 1008 by G. N. Hill, who ran at Olympia in 1910. Although all the events were watched keenly by the crowd, which numbered about 500, the race which was probably the most interesting of the day was the "Old" Old Boys' 50yds. This was won by the Rev.
