TROTTING.

WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING CONCLUDES. KEVIN BRAE BEATS TUI WILDWOOD. MILE SADDLE TO ABRUDBANYA. (By Telegrapft.—Spccinl to "Star.") WANGANUI, Saturday. The second day of the Wanganui Trotting Club's annual meeting was held to-day in bright sunshine, there being a far more satisfactory attendance than on Thursday. The fields were again forge and the racing proved very interesting, some very close finishes being witnessed. A loss of £2186 is shown In the totalisator returns for this year's meeting, when compared with last year. The figures are: 11)28, £15,091} 1927, £18,177. Tui Wildwood Unlucky. Tha Liverpool Handicap saw all go to the post, Tui Wildwood, £350, being favourite, and Kevin Brae, £257, second choice. The summing up was good, as they were the first pair home, although Tui Wildwood should have won easily. Bhe lost about fifty yards at the start, tnd looked hopelessly out of it when a mile was covered. The leaders nearly •11 through were Kevin Brae and Lady Harrington, but six furlongs from home Tui Wildwood showed great speed and ran through the field till she was up with Kevin Brae and Lady Barrington. From there home they had a great race, but Kevin Brae, after looking to be beaten, came again and won by half a length, Tui Wildwood defeating Lady Barrington by a neck. Dillon Huon was fourth. Then came High Sea, Lottie Advance, and Wakefield. The Mile Saddle. In the Stewards' Handicap, a mile saddle event, Haroto, £248, and Abrudbanya, £164, were the favourites, and they, had the race to themselves. Blue Pedro was tha early leader, but at the half-mile Abrudbanya and Haroto were in charge. Abrudbanya then cleared right away and won, pulling up, by six lengths. Haroto eased to beat Blue Pedro by half e length. Give Bell was a poor fourth. Zolock Wood stood on the mark, and took no part in the raoe. The Tiger Easily. The Tiger was backed down to a short price in a field of five in the Ballance Trot, and he had the race won at the end of a mile. He then trailed Rebecca till three furlongs from home, when Corrigan took him to the front, and he won, eased up, by a length and a-half from Call Boy, who beat Rebecca by half 4 length The Abbey Scores. Hostess, one of J. R. Corrigan's team, was a good favourite for the Stakes with £284, Ce Advanceur £181 and Peter Pirate £177 also being well becked. Peter Pirate failed to go away and took no ]>art in the race. Gaza led for a mile and' a-quarter, with Logan Star, but Gaza then faded out, and Logan Star went on in front from The Abbey, Derby Lynn and Fliton. The last-named could not go on, and the order into the straight was Logan Star, The Abbey, Derby Lynn and Ce Advanceur. In a good finish The Abbey stayed on best and won by a length from Derby Lynn, with Logan Star only half-a length way. Hostess, Ce Advanceur and Speed King were in ' a )ine next. Good Field for Finale. Eleven faced the starter in the concluding event, Direct Todd being made a good favourite, and he got home after a good race. Item made the early running from Lottie Advance, Nellie Parsons and Cora Tacks. At the half-mile Item still led from Lottie Advance, with Direct Todd and Cora Tacks next. Cross, ing tha top Lottie Advance was up with Item, and the former led into the straight from Item, with the favourite MXt. In the run home Direct Todd went to the front and won by three-quar-ters of a length from Cora Tacka, with Lottie Advance two lengths away third. Caprice was fourth. After the Ballance Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday, won by The Tiger, the stipendiary steward (Mr. R. T. Reid) had A. E. Adams, driver of Call Boy before the Judicial Committee, as one of the back stewards reported that Adams had called out to A. Corrigan, driver of The Tiger, "take it steady, Alec." Call Boy's time was also six and three-fifth seconds slower than on Thursday, and it was concurred he made no effort till the last 100 yards. The committee disqualified Adams for one month. TUI WILDWOOD UNLUCKY. That Tui Wildwood was unlucky not to win at least one of the big races at the Wanganui meeting cannot be doubted, and the daughter of Wildwood \ Junior is going to be the hardest 'to beat in the Hawera Clip on Saturday next, On the first day at Wangmiroi in the Cup P. Green did not'drive a? good race, he leaving hie run a little too late, otherwise she would have scored easily, ]t was this performance which caused her to go out favourite in the Liverpool Handicap on Saturday and her supporters were very unlucky in having to aceept second dividend instead of first. At the start she tangled until she had .lost somewhere about 40 yards and with half the journey gone she appeared to be in * hopetes position, Seven furlongs from home Green asked her to move up and she travelled so fast over the next four furlongs that she was on the outside of the leaders, Kevlnbrae and Lady Barrington, at the home turn. It then looked a good thing for her, but the run she put in to get to the leaders told in the last few strides, and Kevinbrae, after looking to be beiten, came again over the last ten yards to get the honours by half a length, going past the post at a break. At Hawera Till Wildwood is on the limit in the Cup and though the field will be a strong one and othert will bj preferred to her, they ha«e the hardest part to do to head her off. TH» TARAWA*! President's Handicap.—Kevin Brae (12ytfs), now 48yds; The Abbey (12yds). now 79yds. w H£EL ANP ffiTES (By ORION,) i Zolock Wood is at least consistent, He had two starts at Wanganui pnd •topped on the mark.each time, taking no p*rt in the race. Warplane found the handicaps at Wanganui too hard for him, end he was beaten put of 4 piftW in each of hie •tarts. At the same time; he showed plenty of pace and would go round about 3.32, although he did not get any money. Far some reason Pon Wildman, a brother to Don Wild, was made favourite for the Improvers' Handicap at Wanganui ot| Saturday, bet be did not leave ihe mark well, end was soon one of the laqt lot. At no part did he sliow any speed and never got in the picture. He is by Don Pronto—Wild Duck, and is trained hjr X. Faul at To Avamntu.

Although still a bit sore from the knock he received when being taken to the Thames, Great Ballin Vent two fine races on Saturday at Wanganui. He beat all but Welcome Pearl in the Innovation Handicap, and later in the day would have been first or second in the Suburban Handicap had ho not tangled a dozen yards from the post when fighting out the finish with three others.

Kevin Brae may not be & first-class pacer just yet, but he is certainly full of grit, and it was sheer gameness that won the Liverpool Handicap for him on Saturday. A short distance from the post Tui Wildwood looked to have him beaten, but W. Hughes got to work with the whip on Kevin Brae, and he camc again, to go past the post at a break and win by half a length. Kevin Brae is only a four-year-old by St. Kevin—Edna, and is bound to improve. He is trained by W. Hughes and is a stable mate of Loch Moigh and Padlock.

The Auckland trainer, G. Robertson, is having, a most annoying run with his team. For some time his horses have been going good races, but the nearest they have been able to get to winning is second place. At the Wanganui meeting he raced Admiral Lock and Great Ballin, and each secured a second place. A few weeks back the Epsom trainer said he was too unlucky to win a race and that he was not going to put a shilling on any of his horses until he did win a stake. He has still the hardest part to do.

In the mile saddle race the first day at Wanganui, Abrudbanya was never in the picture, and as the third horse was a dozen lengths behind .the winner and the fourth horse still further back, and Abrudbanya was not in the first, four, it will be seen he was well down the course. The race was won in 2.23, but on Saturday in the same class of race Abrudbanya made the opposition look like a lot of tortoises and won pulling up to a walk in 2.18 4-5. When he finished down the course the first day there was £80 on him, and when he won he carried over twice that amount.

Those who accepted the odds-on price about Peter Pirate in the Innovation Handicapon the first day at Wanganui will consider themselves very lucky in getting a dividend, no matter*how small. The son of Peter Moko was not in a good mood at the start, and lost many lengths before he settled down. He then paced nicely, and was up with the leaders at the home turn, but the chances are he would have been beaten had not Great Delight tangled a few strides from the post. On the second day Peter Pirate was made third fancy in the Wanganui Stakes, but again he played up at the post and refused to strike a gait until the field had gone a couple of furlongs. It was useless then going on, and E. Paul pulled Peter Pirate up and took no part in the race.
