HORORATA RACING CLUB.

THORNDALE'S CUP. TOLYDECTES' SECOND LEG. TROTS TO DICK LOGAN AND LIFEBUOY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star."> CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Hororata Racing Club's meeting was held on Saturday in unpleasant weather. It was a dull day, and there were a few light drizzling showers. In spite of the unfavourable conditions, the attendance was well up to the average, and there was some interesting sport, the Hororata Cup being an exceptionally good race. The totalizator figures showed a slight increase over last year. The racing opened with the Trial Plate. Thurso, Evening and Merivale were scratched, leaving a field of eight. Amor was a strong favourite, while after an interval Star Stranger 11., King's Jester and Malmsey were evenly supported. Amor was" the smartest out, closely followed by Star Stranger 11. and King's Jester, but before a furlong had beeu covered Star Stranger 11. ran past the other pair, who were just clear of Malmsey and Lovedart. They ran like this to the far turn. Star Stranger 11. led King's Jester to the straight, but the latter finished strongly, and won on the post by a neck. Malmsey was two lengths away, a neck in front of Amor, while Bowser was close up, going on well at the end. The winner has not done much racing, but shapes like being useful. Star Stranger 11. is- an improving mare. Malmsey had none the best of the luck. Moratorium Wins Easily.

The four acceptors lined up for the Bangor Highweight Handicap. Moratorium was a screaming favourite, carrying three times as much money as Tarleton, who was easily second choice. Tarleton was smartest out, and led Moratorium past the stand, with the other pair in close attendance. Tarleton was just clear of the other three ut the five-furlong post, but a furlong further on Moratorium joined Tarleton in the lead, with The Harp three lengths away and Kadiac dropping back. Moratorium drew clear at the home turn, and went on to beat Tarleton easily by two lengths. The Harp was nearly two lengths away third, uiid Radiac 'some distance further back. Moratorium won in good style, and he may do still better soon, as "he is very well. The opposition in this race, however, was not strong. Dick Logan Finishes Well.

. The scratching of Danny Boy, Routine, Bingenwood, Change and Master Don left a field of 24 for the Glendort Trot Handicap. It was a good betting race, Dick Logan, the Jacky LoganAudubon Lad bracket, and the Key Child-Money more bracket being evenly I backed. The first to show out was! Audubon Lad, who was followed along the back by Dick Logan and Liberty Hall, while at the en.l of half a mile Locandaline and Rey Child were handy, i at the head of a bunch. Five furlongs from hoine Audubon Lad was three lengths in front of Dick Logan, while six lengths away Locandaline, Liberty Hall and Rap headed the others. Racing for the home turn Locandaline closed on the leading pair. Audubon Lad led to the straight, but Dick Logan came with a strong run over the last hundred yards and won by a neck. Liberty Hall was ten lenarths away third, just in front of Audrey Dillon' and Locandaline.

The winner is a six-year-old gelding owned in North Canterbury and trained from the Sockburn stable 0/ J. Washington. He is by Logan Pointer from 0.1.C., so that he comes from a successful family, and he shoud improve. Audubon Lad paced a pound race, but h# is not likely to reach the good company of the others. Audrey Dillon did l>eft, as she was running on aft?r 0 slow start. Mishap Helps Thorndale.

The Hororata Cup attracted the six acceptors, and they made up a good field. Thornda'le was a pronounced favourite, with Assurance second fancy. Starflight was soon in front, and he led Assurance past the stand, with Lancer two lengths away and the others all handy. Leaving the straight Starflight was a length in front of Assurance and Battle Colours, while the other three were two lengths further back. Going along the back stretch, Assurance and Battle Colours joined Starflight in the lead, and they raced together to the home turn, where Asurance dropped back a little, while Thorndale and Sir Roy commenced to move up. Then Starflight stumbled and interfered with Battle Colours, who lost some ground. This gave Thorndale a chance, and he shot through on the rails at the entrance to the straight* He was in front 100 yds from the post, and he won by a length from Battle Colours, who got up in time to beat Starflight by a neck. Sir Roy finished on strongly, half a length away, just in front of Assurance, while Lancer was not far back. It was a very fine race. Thorndale had a little luck to win, but it was a good performance. Battle Colours and Starflight were unfortunate on the mishap at the home turn, and both should win soon. Scoff Fails at the Last.

Greyfinch was withdrawn from the Sandown Hack Handicap, leaving five starters. Fair Exchange and Scoff disputed favouritism, the former winding up with six tickets more than his rival.

The public picked it well, as the pair fought out a close finish. Waihemo and Fair Exchange led out from the barrier, Motor Smash being last. When two furlongs had been covered Waihemo was two 'lengtlhs in front of Scoff, who was a length in front of the other three. Scoff ran to the front three furlongs from home, with Fair Exchange and Motor Smash next, while Skyquest was last. Scoff led into the straight, where most of the others ran wide. Scoff appeared to have the race in safe keeping, but he stopped in the last 50yds, enabling Fair Exchange to enatch a victory on the post by half a head. Waihemo was two lengths away, just in front of Motor Smash.

The winner has been galloping well for some time, and he may win in better company. Scoff showed plenty of speed, but the weather conditions were unfavourable for a horse who is affected in the wind. Polydectes Stays Well.

There were only four starters for the Brackendale Handicap, Heisler being scratched. Sagittarius was a good deal better backed than Polydectes and Hoylake, who were evenly fancied. Crossbow was smartest out, while Sagittarius was slow to move. Leaving the straight, Crossbow was two lengths in front of Polydectes, and the positions were unchanged at the end of three furlongs,

where Sagittarius and Hoylake were two lengths further back. A furlong further on Polydectes ran past Crossbow, and he was first into the straight. Sagittarius then made his effort, but ran very wide and lost a lot of ground. Hoylake finished on well, hut Polydectes stalled off his challenge by a length. Crossbow was three lengths away, with Sagittarius two lengths further back. Polydectes won in good style, staying out the seven furlongs very well. Lifebuoy Wins the Trot.

Dick Logan, Danny Boy and Master Don were withdrawn from the Snowdon Trot Handicap, and in a field of seventeen Peter Daunt, Lifebuoy and Routine were solidly supported. Warrenore was the first to show out, followed by Lifebuoy, Hals well Park, June d'Oro and Miss Babs, but at the. end of half a mile Warrenore had June d'Oro and Lifebuoy as his nearest attendants. When a mile had been covered Lifebuoy was in second place, with June d'Oro, "Forward Maid, Miss Babs and Routine handy. Routine dropped back a little further on, while Audrey Dillon commenced to move up, her late appearance being due to tangling badly at the start. Half a mile from home Warrenore was just clear of Lifebuoy and Audrey Dillon, and the rest of the fie'd was well back. Lifebuoy joined Warrenore a furlong further on, and when the straight was reached Lifebuoy drew clear, finishing on well. He won decisively by two lengths from Audrey Dillon, while Warrenore, who tired in the run home, wa-s four lengths away. Peter Daunt stayed on to get fourth, with Erin's Royal next. The winner has run some fair races lately, and his win was overdue. He is a five-year-old by Harold Dillon and lie is a useful stayer. Final Race to Malmsey.

For the Racecourse Hill Hack Handicap, the final event of the meeting, King's Jester and Sea Gay were scratched, leaving a field of seven, of whom four had run earlier in the day. Greyfinch, one of the fre&h horses, was sent out a hot favourite, while Malmsey was easily second choice. Greyfinch was smartest to begin, followed by Fair Exchange and Scoff, but Fair Exchange soon lofit her place. Greyfinch had a lead of two lengths after going two furlongs, where Malmsey joined Scoff in second place, the others being strung out. They ran without change to the turn, where ScolT was in trouble. Malmsey went after Greyfinch on reaching the straight. Taking charge a hundred yards from the post he drew away to win by over two lengths. Star Stranger 11., who came with a strong late run, was two lengths away, third, a length in front of Fair Exchange. The winner was finishing on strongly in third place' in the opening race of the day, and on that form seemed to have a great chance in her later start. Greyfuieli has plenty of speed, but is not a good stayer. Star Stranger 11. shaped well, and will win before the end of the season. Detailed results:—
