PLUNKET DAY RESPONSE

£1000 IN SIGHT. SOCIETY WILL SATISFIED.

Eight hundred pounds was obtained in Auckland yesterday as the result of the appeal for funds by the Plunket Society. It is expected that when subscriptions and other contributions promised are to hand, the appeal will net a total of over £1000, as compared with £720 last year.

Mrs. W. H. Parkes, president of the Auckland branch of the Plunket'Society, was responsible for the organisation, and had a large staff of helpers. Stalls were established at important points, and the public made a good response. Small parchment badges were distributed.

"Although it is only a portion of what is wanted for carrying on the year's work of the society, the appeal has been remarkably •successful," said Mrs. Parkes to-day. She explained that £2300 had to be raised by the society by various means, over and above what was paid by the Government as a subsidy. The greatest source of income was the annual street appeal. Efforts later in the year would include entertainments and efforts of a smaller nature.

In expressing her appreciation of the public's response, Mrs. Parkes said that there had been stalls In almost every suburb, and that special thanks were due to those who had helped to carry out an appeal of such an extensive nature.
