TAX ON JAZZ.
Prussia, home of the Junkers, of brass bands blaring "Deutschland Über Alles," and similar bombastic big-drum tunes, claims the credit of the lirst practical move to combat negroid jazz music. The Naumberg Municipal Council has levied a pleasure tax, 50 per cent higher than the ordinary dues, on all places where jazz is played for dancing or is sung. As a result most of the orchestras have returned to the old-fashioned rhythmic waltz, polka, and mazurka, and dancing teachers are reaping an unexpected harvest. At many dancing establishments evenings are set aside when only pre-jazz tunes are allowed, and the Teutonic waltz replaces the fox trot and blackbottom.
