JOURNALIST'S DEATH.
MR, G. BULLOCK DOUGLAS. SOUTH AFRICAN WAR VETERAN. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") WANGANUI, this day. Mr. George Bullock Douglas, editor of "The Wanganui Chronicle," formerly sub-editor of the Wanganui "Herald," and an ex-member of the "Auckland Star" sub-editorial staff, died this morning.
Mr. Bullock Douglaa was born in Auckland and educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School. He next became a school teacher on the staff of the Victoria Avenue School, Wanganui. He went to the South African War with the Bth Contingent, and, on returning, started business as a land agent. Later he answered the call of journalism and joined the Wanganui "Herald" as "chief reporter. He was a member of the Wanganui "Herald" staff for 21 years, and became the sub-editor of that paper. A few years ago, Mr. Bullock Douglas oame to Auckland for health reasons, and for some time was associated with an Auckland suburban newspaper. He then joined the sub-editorial staff of the "Auckland Star," a position which he gave-up to return to Wanganui to be editor of the Wanganui "Chronicle."
Mr. Bullock Douglas was prominent in the Masonic fraternity, of which he was % Master. He was an ex-Wanga-nui representative footballer. He took a very active part in Wanganui public life, and was associated with the formation of the original New Zealand Labour Party. He was an ex-chairman of the Gonville Town Board, and an ex-member of the Wanganui Fire Board. During the war period he was actively engaged in patriotic work.
