Whangarei R.C.

The Autumn Meeting.—British King A Conqueror. PORTLAND HACK TO MELISSA. CORINAX'S MEMORIAL. (By Telegraph.— Speelal fo "Star.") WHANGAREI, this day.

There is excellent weather and a fine attendance at Kensington Park for the autumn meetir.j of the Whangarei Racing Club, and the course is in great order.

Public Gets That Happy Feeling. Fancy Boy and Footpad failed to parade for the Trial Stakes, with which the programme opened. British King £675, Solanio £330 and Valsier £322 were the most sought after, and the public picked it right. Kerry Dance did not get away well, Kawiti being the first to show out from Kaihoremai and Segment. Along the back Segment and Kaihoremai were together, followed by British King, Kyngzone, Kawiti, Solanio, Maori Boy and Valsier. British King had taken charge crossing the top from Segment, Kyngzone, Maori Boy, Solanio and Valsier. British King led into the straight from Segment, and went on to win very easily by six lengths from Solanio, who beat Maori Boy by half a length. Kyngzone was fourth, and then came Segment, Valsier, Miss Myrtle and Gazeria. Another Favourite Scores. Twelve horses contested the Portland Hack, with Melissa a little better backed than Appellant, while Pinon was also well fancied. Exalted, Melissa, Desert Knight and Scaramouche were the first to show up, and they led along the back, but crossing the top Melissa and Pinon were in charge from Desert Knight, Appellant, Exalted, Lord Abbey and Palmares. As the field turned for home Pinon tired and dropped back, leaving Melissa to get the decision from Desert Knight by threequarters of a length, with Palmares half a length further back. Appellant was fourth, and then came Pinon, Exalted, Fiery Lad, Illingar and Scaramouche.

The Mclnnes Memorial. There were only five runners for the big event, the Mclnnes Memorial, with Corinax a good favourite, carrying £815, while Eden Hall £644 and Papatu £444 were next in demand. Corinax on the inside was quickest to begin followed by Macroom, Papatu, Right and Left and Eden Hall. Passing the stand Corinax still had charge from Papatu and Macroom, who were together, with Eden Hall and Right and Left following. Eden Hall ran up to Corinax along the back and was in charge for a short distance, but Corinax was in front again as they crossed the top and he led into the straight, going on to win by three lengths from Eden Hall, who beat Papatu by a - similar margin. Macroom was fourth and Right and Left next.

Presentation of Cup. After the conclusion of the race for the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap the gold cup was presented to Mr. J. Williamson (the owner of Corinax) by Mrs. R. Hosking, the wife of the president of the Whangarei Racing Club.

The Sprinters. Macroom, Dave, Melissa and Fiery Lad failed to parade ft>r the Stewards' Handicap, for which the public selected High Finance as the likely winner, being entrusted with £973, the next, fancied being Aurumavis, £828, and Ned Kelly with £397 on n;s number. Ned Kelly, High Finance, The Thorn, Automr», Bright Dawn and Aurumavis was the order when the field had settled down, and they raced in this order along the back. Ned Kelly was still in charge across the top from High Finance, the pair being three lengths clear of Automne, with Aurumavis and The Thorn next. Ned Kelly was first to turn for home, and held off High Finance, who put in a final effort, but failed to reach the Te Rapatrained gelding by three-quarters of a length. Aurumavis was third three three lengths away, and then came Bright Dawn, The Thorn and Automne. Detail results:—
