TRANSPORT TANGLE.
EFFECT OF OMNIBUS ACT
WILL BOARD BE SET VP T
EXPENSES OF THE INQUIRY.
While the representatives of the various local bodies who waited upon the Prime Minister in regard to the city's transport difficulties have been very non-committal in their statements •s to the result of the deliberations, it is understood that the Government, recognising its responsibility for having had the Motor Omnibuus Act placed on the Statutes, is keen to make investigations into the success or otherwise of the legislation.
It is also probable, in the circumstances, that the Government will bear a portion of the cost of the proposed inquiry into Auckland's transport tangle. Referring to transport questions at last night's meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council, the Town Clerk (Mr. H. Wilson), threw some further light on the subject. He stated " that he. gathered from a recent discussion with the Prime Minister that the ultimate ,result of the proposed commission would 3ie the formation of a transport board, which would take over the city tramways and existing services as well as the control and licensing of motor omnibus services.
