RACING NEWS.

STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

(By WHALEBONE.)

J. Williamson's team for the Bay of Plenty meeting, consisting of Palmares, The Lover. Clarus and Solanio, left for Tauranga last night.

Fungus, who is attached to J. Anderton's stable, was sprinted over a few furlongs during the week, and showed improvement, although still a bit on the green side.

Kawn, who is engaged In the Brighton Hurdles, was among those who contested the Second Hurdle Race at Paeroa on Monday. He was in the lead for a while, but then faded out and finished last.

Importer has been taken up again by W. Ryan. This gelding, who has previously shown promise as a hurdler, has proved rather difficult to train in the past, but the spell may have remedied this defect.

Flying Juliet was unlucky in just failing to catch Awarere in the Paeroa Handicap at Paeroa on Monday. She did not get away well, and was rapidly overhauling Awarere at the finish, a nose dividing the pair.

Weights are due on Monday' for the Easter Handicap, Brighton Hurdles, Mangere Steeplechase, Onslow Stakes and President's Handicap to be decided on the first day of the Auckland R-tcing Club's autumn meeting.

Comical is entered for the Brighton Hurdles, Mangere Steeples and Autumn Steeples at the Auckland autumn meeting. His last appearance was in the Wellington Steeplechase, in which he jumped very badly and was pulled up.

Solanio's effort in the Waihi Handicap, In which event ' he finished second to Wyoming, promises well for his future racing career. This .three-year-old maiden has done very little racing, and can be expected to improve as the season advances.

Modern registered her first success over hurdles when she scored in the Ohake Hurdles at the Rangitikei meeting yesterday. The daughter of King Soult and Velour has plenty of pace, and is likely to do well - over the "battens."

Lucilius showed good jumping ability on the second day of the Ohinemuri meeting, and with a little more experience he should do all right in this department of the game. He is engaged in the Mangere Steeplechase at the Auckland autumn meeting.

That good mare Set Sail is entered for the Auckland autumn meeting. She has also engagements at Riccarton at the same time, and seeing she is trained at Wingatui it looks more likely that she will compete at the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting.

Bchorr continues to pay his way •round the country meetings and added the Hikutaia Handicap to his credit on Monday last at Paeroa. The Day. Comet gelding stays on well, although he is not' likely to prove anything above the ordinary on the racecourse.

Lysander showed up in his races at Trentham last week, and may be a much better horse' when stripped at Ellerslie next month. He has plenty of pace, but Me best effort this season was in run-' ning second to Laughing Prince in the Eclipse Stakes at Wanganui.

Since winning the two hurdle events at Dargaville, Scot Free has been raced on the flat, finishing third in the Puni High-weight Handicap at Pukekohe. He is a greatly improved horse since the spring, and is likely to show up in hurdle races again before the country meetings * are concluded.

That good sprinter Benzora 'had no difficulty in winning the St. Patrick'! Handicap at Optinake, and is likely to show up again in sprint events before the season is jjnuch oldef.; Benzora won the Shorts Handicap at the Wellington spring meeting, which marked his only other success this season.

- Mask won the Grandstand Handicap at Auckland in January, but since then ha has only had two starts —the Wellington Cup and the Wellington Bacing Club Handicap—and ran unplaced in each of them. According to reports from Wanganui Mask is in good fettle just Bow, and can be expected to race well.

Queen Arch ran two good races at the Ohinemuri meeting, finishing fourth in the Gold Cup on the opening day after being badly left, and on the concluding day she ran third in the Shaw Memorial. If taken to Tauranga at the end of this week the Marble Arch mare is likely to be in demand for the big event at that meeting.

After her winning performance in the Pukekawa Handicap at the Franklin meeting, Taurimu is likely to be one of the favoured candidates in any face she is saddled up to contest at the Bay of Plenty meeting at the end of the week. The Quin Abbey mare is back to her best form and should pay her way in the future.

Value gave a poor display in the Paeroa Handicap at the Ohinemuri meeting on Monday. She won very easily on Saturday over seven furlongs, and with considerably leaa weight on Monday was thought to have a good chance. She flattered her supporters for about four furlongs, but then commenced to drop back and finished fourth.

The promising hack Lady's Boy figure* in two hack events at the Whangarei meeting to be held at the end of the present month. The Some Boy TL gelding has performed well during the short time he has been racing, his record being four wins since the beginning of February. If taken to the Whangarei meeting he is likely to be well supported by the public. • ~

Money Order has been accorded a; nomination in the Easter Handicap »™! the Huia Handicap to be decided at the Auckland autumn meeting. engaged in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton at the same time. Honey Order ia trained by T. H. Gillett at Riccarton, who also has Satrap, and if the latter comes north to contest th# Great Northern St. Leger Stakes, and there is every chance of hla Monty Order m ill aoMapany hi*.

Uralla has won over hurdles, but evidently it is intended to put her to steeplechasing, for she is entered for the Mugere Steeples to bo run on the first d*y of the AJR.C. autumn meeting.

Glendowfe, who won the Wailcato Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase is entered for the Autumn Steeplechase at the Auckland autumn meeting. He is a most promising sort, and should be seen to advantage in cross-country events this season.

Lucy Rose was finishing very fast in second place on the first day of the Ohinemuri meeting and won in good style on Monday. This two-year-old is ®"gaged in the Onslow Stakes and the Victoria Handicap at the Auckland autumn meeting.

Archibald ran a good race in the Second Hurdle Race at Paeroa on Monday, and should be an improved horse J* started in the Brighton Hurdles at Ellerslie at Easter time. Archibald won this event two years ago and was beaten by Royalform last year.

_ White Ringlet, who scored at Rangitikei yesterday is by Some Boy 11., and has shown good form this season. She won at Foxton and was placed on three other occasions out of a total of seven starts. White Ringlet is trained by W. Higgins at Wanganui.

Trisco Jack, who won the steeplechase each day at the Waikato spring meeting last October, is among those entered for the Autumn Steeplechase at Ellerslie next month. This horse is a great jumper, and he will only need to be at his best to give a good display.

Storm Fiend has gone on the right way since he raced Pukekohe, where he showed much improved form. This gelding has a lot of pace, but may need more racing before he becomes really solid. He will make his next appearance in hack events at Elerslie during Easter week.

By winning the Rangitikei Cup Vivo registered her second victory during the present season, her previous success being recorded in the Christmas Handicap at the Taranaki summer meeting. She is a five-year-old mare by Polydamon from Melodise, and is trained by C. Jackson, at Hawera.

Partaga, the winner of "tie Scott Memorial, the chief sprint evest at the Rangitikei meeting, previouslyrigisplayed good form when he annexed the Inglewood Handicap at the Taranaki summer meeting. The Bisogne gelding'is trained by C. Jackson, of Hawera, who also won the Cup with Vivo earlier in the day.

Lady Desmbnd won the Rangitikei Cup twelve months ago and nearly repeated the performance yesterday when she failed to account for Vivo, who beat her ty a couple of lengths. Her most important victory this season was obtained when she captured the Manawatu Cup in December last.

Bonhomme, who used to be trained l>y F. Tilley at Fordell and is now one of A. D. Webster?*, team, made his first appearance as a'kurdler at the Kangititkei meeting arid finished second to Modern. TUi .w a most encouraging itart, and Bonhommrf is evidently g6in<; ■> be moije than ugrfnl over "the sticks."

" Though Bright Glow Is entered for the j Easter Handicap and'the Autumn Handicap at the Auckland meeting it appears to be a bit doubtful whether she will come north. She may be raced at Feilding at Easter time, but on her showing at Trentham in the Thompson and Suburban Handicap she would have a great chance if started at Ellerslie. Ruanui started on half-a-do«en occasions as a two-year-old- last season, winning in his first effort and being placed on two other occasions. This season he won a double"lt Feilding in the spring, and it looked" a* though he was going to turn out a good three-vear-old, but from that time till he won at Rangitikei, he failed tp get into, the money. Kuanui is one of tto Fordell team. ;? AVOIVDALE JOCKEY cifß.
