GAMBIA RIVER IN PORT.

, To-day's arrivals inelude the Gambia River from Ocean Island early this morning, and the Port Adelaide from London, i via Wellington. The latter vessel was I due about three o'clock this afternoon. For the next couple of days there will 1 bo a fairly slack period in the shipping, there being no overseas vessels due here , until Sunday. On that day, however, 1 there will be a fairly heavy influx, ex- , pected arrivals including the R.M.m.s. ; Aorangi from Vancouver, and the ' Remuera from London, as well as the ! Cambridge from Napier for homeward , loading. The fairly heavy tonnage in port has been slowly decreasing, and most of the overseas vessels are expected to sail before the week-end. The Pakeha and Somerset are to be dispatched late this afternoon for Opua and Wellington respectively. while the Middlesex is announced to sail at 5 o'clock to-morrow for London and West of England ports, via New York and Halifax. UNION CO.'S STEAMERS. The Katoa sails at 5 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton direct, and thence to Dunedin. The Kaimanawa arrived this morning from Napier and berthed at the Western wharf. She is expected to sail to-morrow evening for Westport. The Wingatui arrived this morning from southern ports and berthed at the Prince's wharf. She is expected to sail on Saturday next for Wellington. The Waipiata left Dunedin at midnight last night for Auckland via Oamaru, Timaru. Lyttelton and Wellington. The Kurow left Bluff at 1.30 a.m. to-day for Lyttelton to complete loading for Auckland direct. NORTHERN COMPANY'S MOVEMENTS. Projected Departures. SOMERSET SAILS 5 P.M. To . continue discharge of her general cargo from Liverpool, the Federal steamer Somerset is to sail at 5 p.m. to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. GAMBIA RIVER ARRIVED. After a protracted voyage of thirteen days from Ocean Island, the Houlder Bros.'' steamer Gambia River (Capt. A. G. Allepp) arrived at Auckland early this morning and berthed at the King's wharf. She was originally intended to go to Lyttelton first, and discharge 4000 tons of phosphate, , and then come to Auckland to unload the remaining 3300 tons. However, the vessel was delayed by strong head winds, which rose to gale force after the vessel passed Hunter Island. The gale continued for 1 nve days, and the steamer was forced to slow down. En route from Vancouver to Auckland and Sydney, the Union Co.'s R.M.m.s. Aorangi arrived at Suva this morning and was to continue her voyage at noon. She is due here on Sunday afternoon next and is announced to sail again for Sydney at 3 p.m. the following day. KAITANGATA AT MELBOURNE. I To commence loading for Auckland, the Union Company's steamer Kaitangata • arrived at Melbourne from Bluff on Tuesday last, and is to leave there for Ade- , lalde on Saturday next. , She is scheduled to leave Adelaide on March 28, Ediihburg on March 30, and Melbourne on April 2, and is due here on April 8. THE PORT ADELAIDE. From London, via Wellington, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Adelaide was expected to reach Auckland about 3 o'clock this afternoon, berthing at the Central wharf. From Auckland she is to go to New Plymouth to complete discharge and commence Homeward loading.
