MOTOR CAR WRECKED.
GREAT SOUTH ROAD CRASH.
VEHICLE MITCH DAMAGES.
OCCUPANTS' LUCKY ESCAPE.
A skidding motor car crashed with great force into a telegraph pole at the junction of Fairfax Road and Great South Road shortly after 6 p.m. yesterday, the occupants miraculously escaping serious injuries.
Mr. John Ross, jeweller, of Hillside Crescent, Mount Eden, and Mr. Harry Tinker, horse dentist, of Manukau Road, Epsom, were travelling along Great South Road in the direction of the city when the accident occurred. The St. John Ambulance was quickly on the scene, and Mr. Tinker was conveyed to the hospital, where an examination revealed that he had sustained facial abrasions and slight puts on the hands and body. Mr. Ross, the driver, had a few scratches only, and was able to proceed to his home.
The accident was caused by the driver' applying the brakes at the intersection in an endeavour to avoid an Onehunirabound tramcar. The motor skidded! sideways and smashed into the pole completely wrecking the body. Splintered! glass was thrown in all directions. Both front doors of the vehicle were wrenched off, the dashboard was torn away, the gearbox was broken, and the steeringwheel smashed in the driver's hands. The whole of the off-side of the motor car was completely wrecked.
The car was towed away to an One honga garage.
