Luxurious was given a schooling lesson over the pony hurdles at Ellerslie on Tuesday morning and displayed quite a lot of promise for a beginner at the jumping game.

D. Morighan, who was training for a long time in tlie Taranaßi district, lias decided *o take up Iris residence in Auckland, and will commence as a public trainer.

Sleepy Sol and Restaurant, who were taken south by W. Gall for the Egmont meeting, are due to return to Ellerslie to-morrow. Owing to the tracks being so hard it was decided not to race them at the Taranaki meeting. ,

Miss Myrtle, the Catmint —Whitford Belle, filly in J. Buchanan's stable, is moving along nicely in her work at Ellerslie; She was -given a run over five furlongs on the" course'proper during the week and shaped in good style.

Ballvmoy IT. is gradually getting back into racing condition once again. She has been indulged in a few sprinting tasks lately, and by the manner in which she has shaped will have to be reckoned with in sprint races during the autumn meetings.

Dave has done plenty of racing during the New Year and is a very fit horse at the present time. The Lucullus gelding has won four of the last six races that he has contested, and should add to his score before the country meetings are finished.

Eager Hose, the half-sister to Town Guard, is rounding up nicely on the work allotted to her, which chiefly consists of pace work on the tan track. She is rather a good type of three-year-old that looks like developing into a useful sort later oiu

Taurimu ran a fair race in the Waharoa Handicap at Matamata, in which event he finished third, after being one of; the leaders for moni of the journey. Tlie Te Aroha-trained gelding will be hard to beat in hack sprint races around the country circuity . ..

Abbey Day, who has not been seen to i advantage since she won a treble at the Tanmarunui meeting in December last, is engaged in hack events.at Rotorua. As she appears to be doing well in her track work, ifcasijust possible that, the Quin Abbey mare will perform well at that meeting.

Rangi Kokiri, a chestnut gelding by Day Comet from Bunday, trained by A. Tinker at Te Rapa, carried a lot of money in the Putaruru Stakes at Matamata, but could do no better than finish fourth. He has had little racing experience and can be expected to improve as the season advances.

Mr. L. C. Hazlett's lucky star was in the ascendant when he could not complete his original intention of motoring to! the Tapanui races with Mr. A. B. Armour, Mr. J. Biggins and Mr. L. G. Hill last week. Mr. Hazlett's withdrawal from the party created a vacancy which was taken by Mr. T. Wilkins.

Prince Lu was saddled up twice during the Matamata meeting and was in the money on both occasions. He was always racing with the leaders, but after having every show was not quite good enough to hold off the opposition. - Prince Lu has not had n®ich racing experience and can be expected to improve as the season advances. ,

Young Pretender, who has threatened to win a race on several occasions, showed up for the greater part of the distance in the Hinuera Handicap at Matamata last week. However, at the finish he could get no closer than fourth, and unless he can make some improvement will find it hard to win in the future.

J. Williamson, the Ellerslie trainer, will have a useful team to represent him at the Rotorua meeting and his prospects of collecting some stake money appear good. He usually wins a good share of the races on the country circuit, and his team for the above fixture is in excellent condition and should do well on the trip.

The racing he had at the Matamata! meeting should improve Day Guide, who looks a likely winner of & hack, event before the season is much older. He met two speedy hacks in Ladies' Boy and Venus Abbey, who both finished in front of him in the Putaruru Stakes, and he will only need to repeat that running to be hard to beat in hack company.

Segment has been kept going in view of the autumn meetings, and should strip well when he is again required to race. He was given a run over a. round on the No. 2 grass at Ellerslie yesterday morning and-completed the track in good style. This three-year-old only requires to stay on over £ distance to win races, for be has the speed and is a good beginner.

W. Paterson has decided to shift from Ellerslie to Matamata, and will take his team, consisting of Miss New Zealand, Catonian, Levenside and Royal Lad (a brother to Royalform) there to-day. For a long time he had charge of Messrs. John and Jas. Paterson's horses and did

with Surveyor, Pellir Royalform jWKlXlrall*. He should .be long in > together, for he
