The engagement is announced of Leura Annie, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Bregmen, Tennyson Street, Birkenhead, to James Fredrick, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Benfell, Chelsea.
The engagement is announced of Enid Joyce, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Harston, Cobden Road, Napier, to Donald McLean, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Campbell, "Horonui," Hastings.
The engagement is announced of Doris Thelma, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Glover, of Remuera, to Alan Harold, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Burns, of Parnell, Auckland.
King Charles I. started the fashion of wearing a single earring. He was wearing the jewel when he went to the scaffold. It is now preserved as an important relic at Welbeck Abbey, the seat of the Duke of Portland.
