GRASS FIRES.
BRIGADES OX THE HOP.
Fire brigades in various parts of Auckland had further experiences with grass fires during the week-end, and in all cases tliey prevented serious damage. After the showers which fell in some of the suburbs yesterday there were fewer calls.
The city brigade had a lively battle with an outbreak which threatened the (irafton Flats in Park Road on Saturday afternoon, but the flames were mastcicd before extending to the building. Yesterday afternoon the city brigade responded to a call to Heme Bay and heat out with sacks a fire on a vacant -cction. Other brigades which were called into ;• ction were at Point Chevalier, r.Ymuera, Devonport, Mount Albert and N'-wmarket. The fire dealt with by the la-t-mentioned brigade on a section in Seccombe's Road for a time seriously threatened the Manual Training School l.uiiding in Newmarket.
