MURIWAI SPEED RECORD.
108.4 MILES AN HOUR.
STUTZ CAR'S PERFORMANCE
Speed trials were held on the Muriwai Beach yesterday afternoon to try out two of the cars that did well in the races on Saturday. The cars were I\. B. Wilson's Stutz and C. W. F. Hamilton's Sunbeam.
The course was a mile, and the speeds reached were:—Stutz, 105.4 miles an hour; Sunbeam, 95.1 miles an hour. The revolution meter of the Sunbeam showed that the engine was turning over at a speed equivalent to 101 miles an hour, but the smooth tread tyres which were put on after Saturday 'evidently caused a loss of six miles an hour in wheel spin. The speed attained by the Stutz was a record for Muriwai.
