RACES AT BLANDFORD PARK. OLD-TIMERS' DAY. CURVENGEN WINS TWO-LAP CONTEST. '.1 he Auckland Cycle Club held three races on the track at Blanford Park on Saturday afternoon, and all were keenly contested. The one mile handicap of six laps was decided first, there being seven starters, of whom two pulled out before the commencement of the last lap. H. Pelham, who was on the 30yds mark, won by a comfortable distance.
The two-mile handicap was more exciting, only three out of the eight starters finishing. The men on the back marks were out of it from the first, and aftei tlie first mile two dropped out. In an exciting finiTi between H. Lawlcr and K. Rae, who were each on the 120 yds mark, th-.; former won by three-quarters of a length. P. Kiekiuan was some yards away third.
It was, however, the third race in which was centred most interest. Eight old-timers mounted and tried out against one another over two laps. Their names were: J. Harriott, M. A. Herring, W. L Curvengen, J. Dean, G. Herring, scratch; G. Killingback, 30yds; S. Oakes and J. Willouahby, 40yds. When the gun went none of the competitors got awav properly, and after fifty yards had been covered all were bunched. In the second "lap Curvengen and Dean drew out and fought for lirst place, the honour falling to the former by a length. Results were:—One Mile Handicap.—H. Pelham (SOyds), 1; W. Archer (120 yds), 2; I. George (80yds). 3. Time. 2.30 4-5. Two-mile Handicap.—ll. Lawler (120 yds), 1; K. Rae (120 yds), 2; P. Rickman (160 yds), 3. Time, 4.59. Old Timers' Race. —W. L.
