STUTZ WINS BIG CUP.

SYDNEY AHAIX V"[VS LIGHT CAR The aniiu.il raccs at Muriwai Beach were held on bat unlay alioiuoon in glorious weather, and r-e\cial thijllin 0 contests, were \vitne>.~ed. K>r the third successive year the Now Zealand Motor

Cup race was won by 1!. B. \\ ilson in his Stutz, and the cup now becomes Mr. Wilson's property. Rudolf Taylor carried oft' the light car c\eiit wiih his Bugatti eight, which easily distanced the other competitors.

The most unlucky car of the clay wasj the Miller Special, driven by H. K. Cutten. When going well and overhauling the Stutz in the second lap of the New Zealand Motor Cup, a ground wire broke and the Miller missed a lap while repairs were effected. However, Cutten made amends in the next race, easily winning from scratch the 12 miles Open Handicap in 0.54. OPEN: SPRINT HANDICAP. One mile and a-half, straight. First Heat. Chrysler (H. C. Curlett), 15s. 1 Sunbeam (C. W. I'. Hamilton), 3s .... Miller Special (H. K. Cutten), 3s .... 3 The tirst tour cars appeared to be in a straight line half a mile from the judge's box. The Chrysler drew out and won by 35 yards from the Sunbeam, which, in turn, was ten yards in trout of the Miller Special. Buick was fourth and Essex next. Second Heat. Bugatti (H. Blythe), 15s 1 Sunbiam (G. Hennin§), 3s - Austin (N. H. Newcomb), 20s 3 Won easily by 250 yards, with the Austin 110 yards back in third position. The Stuu appeared to have trouble at the start, aud finished half a minnte behind the third car. Final. Miller Special (H. K. Cutten) 1 Bugatti (H. Blythe) 2 Sunbeajß IC. W. F. Hamilton) 3 It was an exciting linish, the Miller Special crossing 'the line torty yards ahead of the Bugatti, which beat tuu Sunbeam by fifteen yarns. The Chrysler was close up, followed by S.unbeam and Austin. LADIES' HANDICAP. Two miles straight. Essex (Miss Wood) 1 Ansaldo (Mrs. J. Brooke) 2 Oakland (Miss B. Monk) 3 Won by 10 yards, the second and third cars being close together. The Bu.Cii driven by Miss Selby was fourth. NEW ZEALAND MOTOR CUP. Stutz (K. B. Wilson, Auckland) 1 Sunbeam (C. W. Hamilton, Fairiie) .... 2 Mercer (Nattrass) 3 Won easily. ■ -Time, 55.51 2-5.' " East, who won the Light Car Cup in the eight-cylinuer Bugatti, drove this car in tlie big event of tne day for Mr. Kusseli Taylor, of Sydney. Four of the entries did not start in the race. They were \v. li. Ktoi (Patea), Chevrolet; H. C. Curlett (Auckland), Chrysler, wno had trouble in ihe trials on Friday; A- E. (J. East t,Syduej;,| Bugatti; and U. C. Meredith (Australia). The Stutz, owned and driven by K. B. Wilson, of AuctUand, and the Miller Special of H. -S; Cutten (Auckland) got the best of the moving start, while the Parry Thomas Special of V. F. Bauchop (Wellington) was slow to move. In less than a minute the seven cars were lost to viewalong the beach. However, they were not long away. The yellow Stutz and the white Milier Special were the lirst twt> to be seen by the large crowd. The Stutz was 10 yards ahead of the Miller, and both made good turns. The Miller went on ahead and seemed to pass the Stutz after turning. Following the Miller were Taylor's Bugatti, Hamilton s Sunbeam, Carter's Mercer, and Henning's Sunbeam, all at about 20 yard intervals. The Stutz and the Miller did the first lap in 5m 455. Before the cars -wete in view Bauchop came home in . the Parry Thoinas and stayed there. The Miller Special was nowhere to be seen when the Stutz came up the beach again, something evidently having gone wrong. This lap was done by the Stutz in Gm as. Hamilton's Sunbeam was running second, a good way back, and then came the Mercer, not far away. Taylor's Bugatti was not far behind and then came Henning's Sunbeam. All the drivers were taking the turns particularly ■well. Hamilton's Sunbeam had caught up nearly a mile on the Stutz in the next lap. When the Stutz turned again the Sunbeam waß only a few hundred yards away. Then came the Miller, which had missed a lap. Still in the race, but a lap behind, the white car had no chance. Eight up on the Mercer was Nattrass, driving the Mercer, while the Bugatti and Heuning s Sunbeam were the next to go round the red flag. The time taken by the Stutz tor the three full laps was 18m 13s. The Sunbeam Improved a little on the Stutz when the yellow car came home again. The full time for the Stutz was 24m 8s for four laps. The Miller was next, still out of the lace. Cutten could not make the turns at all well. The Bugatti was fully a minute behind the Mercer. Going clown on the last lap the Stutz was a quarter of a mile in front of the Sunbeam, which had picked up another hundred yards on the yellow car. The Miller still held its place. The Stutz came into view on its own and simply iiew home. The Sunbeam had lost ground on the last lap and finished 12s after the winner. Then came the Mercer in third place, followed by the Bugatti and the other Sunbeam. The time was 55m 545.

Bob Wilson, having won the New Zealand Motor Cup for the last three years in succession, retains it for good.
