WORLD-WIDE ROTARY.

CONVENTION AT OSTEND.

ADDRESS BY MR. T. H. MACKY

Members of the Rotary Club, at their weekly luncheon to-day, were given an interesting address on "The Ostend Convention." The speaker was Rotarian T. H. Macky, who was one of the representatives of New Zealand rotary at that gathering. There was a large attendance of members and visitors. The club president (Mr. W. J. Holdsworth) was in the chair.

On behalf of the club the president extended greetings to Rotarians Noel R. Timpleri Brighton, England; J. H. Holne, New Plymouth; O. McWilliam, Palmerston Noith; D. S. Wood, Whangarei, F. H. Claxton, Thames and Mr. G. S. Kingscott, Melbourne.

Mr. • Macky described the setting in which the great convention was held at Ostend, the spectacular Belgian watering place. He spoke of the large number of delegates who came together from inost of'the countyics of the world and said that the people of Ostend received them with open arms. The hospitality was unbounded.

In the actual convention, the speaker said, there was wonderful organising, and valuable discussions took place not only on the central ideals of Rotary but also on the great international spirit which was growing in the movement.

By describing the outstanding personalities of the convention, many of them prominent figures in the national life of their own countries, and passing on thoughts which were expressed by them, Mr. Macky sought to express the true spirit of the remarkable gathering. He believed the convention would go down in the history of Rotary as one in which a multitude of intensely sincere men from many countries had made a gfeat contribution to a better understanding of international problems and to the spirit of goodwill throughout the world.

On the proposal of Rotarian White a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker.
