OTOROHANGA HERD TEST.
A FINE AVERAGE. The New Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Association's returns for December show the Otorohanga group to be the highest in the association, heading the list with the fine average of 39.761b butterfat from 1332 cows. In December, 1926, Otorohanga came second to Manawatu. The best average for December for one herd was 53.291b fat from 61 cows, from the pedigree and grade Jersey herd of Mr. Clyde Phillips, his highest individual cow giving 87.801b fat. The January returns credit this herd with 47.811b fat from 70 cows, with a 5.3 test, which is an excellent return considering the adverse weather conditions. In November one of Mr. Fred Phillips' grade Jersey herds was top for the Otorohanga group, and his pedigree Jersey herd was top for January. The leading cow for the group and second for the province was one in his grade herd with a month's return of 96.611b fat.
