A HAMILTON FORGERY.
PRISONER TO MAKE RESTITUTION
When John Walker, a young man who had been committed from Hamilton on charges of forgery, uttering, and false pretences appeared for sentence in Supreme Court to-day, it was stated that he had gone to* the offices of a firm and obtained one of their printed cheque fortes, which lie filled in and cashed at a bank.
"One can understand a forged cheque," said Judge Reed, ' but it is difficult to understand a firm supplying one of its own." Later his Honor'said: "I don't know whether the person who was foolish enough to cash the cheque would not have an action for damages against the firm."
It was Walker's first offence, and he was admitted to probation for two vear« on the conditions that he should* pay the costs ( ilii 1/). refund the £0 IS/G in instalments, and take out a prohibition order.
