TAYLOR GETS A CENTURY.

(Received 2 p.m.) JOHANNESBURG, January 30. In the fourth cricket Test match, the M.C.C. team made 265 runs for their first innings, and South Africa replied with 328. Peebles, for M.C.C., put up a plucky resistance and was difficult to dislodge, as he declined to touch balls on the off. Taylor played wHh old brilliancy except for one brief period when he appeared affected by the rapid fall of wickets. He made his century in 143 minutes. It is the first century made against the tourists. The iil played vigorously and pulled the game round. There were two short stoppages owing to rain. Deane and Cameron played faultless cricket and in a race against the rain piled on runs. The partnership yielded 89 for the ninth wicket. The stand of Bissett an'd Vincent was exciting, putting on 46 runs in twenty-two minutes. Scores:— M.C.C.—First Innings.
