OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL

At the meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council the- Mayor (Mr. R. B. Todd) being indisposed, 'Cr. T. Clements presided over the following counciiloi a : ; — IT. J. Hall. C: Arlington, 11. Wills. J. S. I>e Moutalk, C. R. Petric, G. Y. Poarce and 11. R. Linkhorn.

Subdivision.—Messrs. Watson and Murray submitted plans for subdivision of their property in Circa I South Road, which were approved. They also accepted the council's olfer of £50 as payment for strip of land at the "Triangle."' bringing High Street and Railway Street into alignment.

Road Dedicated.—Mr. G. B. Osborne requested the council to dedicate Beatty Street, on the Sturges Estate. Before accepting the street it was resolved to place the matter before the foreman and the Works Committee for a report.

Services Prior to Footpaths.—Replying to a request that electric power poles be erected before footpaths are finished on ail estate, the Auckland Klectric. Power Board was pi c pared to do so. although it was against their usual practice. They, however, disclaimed any cost due to loss in connection with the contractors. Regarding the same matter the Gas Company would lay the gas mains provided the owner bore the interest charge till the system was sufficiently revenue-producing.

Water Supply.—The water pumped during the past three weeks was 3,707.w0 gallons and the well has dropped 3V& inches, but was higher than at the corresponding period last year.

Fire Brigade.—The council declined to allow the price of the old fire engine to he devoted to the brigade's funds, 011 the ground that the ratepayers purchased the new engine in place of the old one. The brigade's request for coconut'matting and adjustable light for the billiard room ou the basis of 50-50 was agreed to.

Slot Telephone.—lt was resolved to j>cti ion the Government to ciect a slot telephone in the main thoroughfare.
