BUTCHERS' LICENSES.
DISPUTE AT PAEROA.
COUNCIL'S RESPONSIBILITY
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
PAEROA, Fridav
"The borough of Paeroa will be without any butchers' shops whatever unless you issue permits to those butchers who have premises which comply with the regulations," declared Dr. H. Chesson, medical officer of health at Auckland, in a letter to the Paeroa Borough Council.
The council recently licensed a local butcher's premises against the advice of the Health Department. Dr. C'hesson again condemned the premises as unsuitable, and the council then asked local butchers to return the licenses issued, and refunded all license fees for the current year, on the ground that it had no by-laws covering the issue of licenses.
This was answered at the council meeting by an intimation from Dr. C'hesson to the efTect that the issue of a license was provided for by regulation, and it was obligatory on the persons and bodies concerned to comply witli the regulation.
The council decided to frame a by-law immediately to cover the conditions l'or the issue of a license and payment of fees as recommended by Dr. C'hesson.
