TAKAPUNA'S ROADS.
filling up the gaps.
TROUBLE OVER FINANCE
Takapuna residents, who have been insistently seeking to learn when the gaps in the main concrete roads are to be put in proper order, will be interested to know that the Takapuna Borough Council applied some time ago to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to place lief ore the ratepayers loan proposals for £30,800. This was designed to cover the cost of paving with concrete the gap between the Devonport boundary and Belmont, a strip in King Edward Avenue, Bayswater, the main road round the lake from Northcote Road to Sheriff's Corner, and a portion of Sheriff's Hill (Main East Coast Koad). . Included al?o was stormwater drainage jn Kitchener Road and Cecil Road, where flooding in winter is a serious menace to health. In interim correspondence the Loans Board has expressed a desire that only really urgent works should be submitted, and has asked the council to further consider the matter before proceeding with the application. The proposals are again under review, but it is feared that an inevitable result of the delay will be the losing of favourable weather for the performance of essential work on the main traffic routes.
