"LITTLE SELF-SACRIFICE."

SHORTAGE OF SCOUT OFFICERS.
Some pointed remarks were made by Mr, L. M. Isitt, M.L.C., concerning the difficulty experienced by the council in obtaining young men willing to serve as Scout officers at the annual meeting of the Boy Scouts' Association in Christcinirch. These followed a statement by the chairman (Brigadier-General A. W. Andrew, C.M.G.) 'to the effect that there were £00 or 360 vacancies existing in the Boy Scout movement for officers.
"The only way to serve God is to Mm... your fellow-men," declared / Mr. jsltt. "It is a scandal that there is a shortage of Scout officers. When up to 20,000 boys could be found for the 9oy Scout organisation, it is a 'scandal to think that there are not sufficient men who are willing to come forward tod give their services to such a magnificent project. Many people think that the ottly *ay to worship God is to go Unchurch, and I am ashamed to see tint there is- such little self-sacrifice shown by the young men of the country. Tie politicians of the country can do modi for the prosperity and happiness of tie country, but if three or four hundred; able and efficient young men could be enticed to volunteer as Scout officers they could do more good for the country ttin any other happening at the present moment," concluded Mr. Isitt amidst applause.
