LONDON, November 22.

Britain is preparing to hold the blue riband of, the Atlantic against the challenge of Germany, France and Italy by constructing steamers credited to make the Majestic look a mere coaster.

The coantries named are at present building ships comparable to the largest British vessels, but according to authorities quoted in Lloyd's Shipping List the White Star is planning a liner larger than the Majestic, while a .Cunard ship that will take the shine out of anything atltet ia stated to be gratam plated.

New York authorities are planning the construction of piers more than 1000 ft long for these leviathans. Southampton is capable of easily accommodating the present monsters, and dock authorities say they are ready to receive anything capable of floating.

At present the ocean dock is 1600 feet long by 620 ft wide and extensions and reclamations involving £13,000,000 are proceeding.

It is interesting to note that the North German Lloyd liners, Bremen and Europa, art* nearing completion. They will be 1937 feet long. France and Italy are constructing three of 1950 feet long.

Tlie White Star liner Majestic is the largest vessel ever built, registering 56,000 tons. She carries 4100 passengers, and a crew of 1000. The Majestic, which was originally the Bismarck, was built in Germany, and later turned over to the British.
