Last night a young man, Charles Gates,-aged 21, when riding pillion on a motor cycle near Piopio, was thrown to the ground as the machine ran over a dog 011 the road. The other man escaped with minor injuries.
_ Mr. Gates was brought into Te Kuiti, and an X-ray examination at the hospital disclosed that he had dislocated his neck. He is still alive, but his condition is precarious, though doctors bclic\e there is a chance of recoverv. Mr. Gates belongs to Hawera, and he and his companion were riding from there to Hamilton.
