FINES FOR TEACHERS.
FURTHER PROTESTS MADE
We continue to receive resolutions passed by the staffs of various schools, strongly protesting against the proposal to insert a clause in the Education Amendment Act, "empowering boards to fine any teacher guilty of wilful disobedience to any lawful command, or of neglect of duty." The proposal is viewed with grave misgivings by the staff of the Meadowbank Public School, who feel that the spirit animating the profession has never been such as to justify even the suggestion that such disciplinary powers were necessary to induce wholehearted service. Other protests are from New Lynn and Royal Oak schools.
