Ministers' Replies In House

DOMINION MEAT SUPPLIES. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, November 21. Capt. D. H. Hacking (Department of Overseas Trade), told a questioner that the Dominions in 1926 supplied 52 per cent of Britain's wheat imports and 25 per cent of the meat. The United States supplied 31.8 and 12.8 per cent respectively.
Asked whether the Admiralty would consider the advisability of limiting tenders for the supply of beef for Home commands to Dominion and Biritsh grown. Lt.-Col. C. M. Headlam said that apart from local contracts for Home ports, which were restricted to Dominion and Home grown beef, the Admiralty preferred to adhere to the present practice.
Mr. G. T. Locker-Lampson (Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs), informed a questioner that he had just received a medical report from the French Government giving the opinion that the transfer of Lord Terrington to England for extradition purposes could not be attempted without endangering his health.
Mr. Baldwin, in answer to questions, stated that for the seven months ended October 31, of the migrants assisted under the Empire Settlement Act, 20,000 went to Canada, 16,700 to Australia and 1700 to New Zealand.
The costs to the respective Governments of Britain and Canada, were £200,000 and £90,000, to Britain and Australia £200,000, and to Britain and New Zealand £22,500 each. During the past five years 7305 boys between the ages of 14 and 17 had gone to Canada under the care of voluntary societies.
Lady Iveagh, the newly-elected Conservative member for Southend-on-Sea, dressed in black, entered the House accompanied by her brother-in-law, Mr. Walter Guinness, Financial Secretary of the Treasury.
There were Conservative cheers. One Labour member shouted "Guinness* stout." Ministers retorting with "shame" and "shut up."—(Sydney "Sun.")
