MOTORIST'S WIFE DIES.
RESULT OF COLLISION.
PROCEEDINGS AT INQUEST. MAN LEAVES WITNESS BOX. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.' PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. An inquest was held to-day into the death of Esther A tin Mitchell, wife of A. R. Mitchell, of Newbury. She died in Palmerston North Hospital on November 10, after receiving ierioua injuries when the car her husband was driving collided with a Public Works train on the Rangitikei Line.
Medical evidence was given to the effect that Mitchell, when examined after the accident, was suffering from the after-affects of alcohoL One witness said he would have driven with Mitchell in the condition in which he was; the other said that he would have driven with him on a straight road. When Mitchell was called to the witness box his counsel afeked the coroner to warn him that his fle6d not answer any questions thAt might incriminate him. Possibly a charge was pending. Alter counsel had objected to questions asked by the police, the objections were upheld by the coroner, and Mitchell left the box.
The hearing is proceeding.
