Countess Of Iveagh Returned At
By-Election.
HER HUSBAND'S SEAT.
• LONDON, November 20.
The by-election for Southend-on-Sea, caused by the sitting member, Viscount Elveden, succeeding to the title of Earl of Iveagh, resulted in the election of his wife, the Countess of Iveagh, retaining the seat for the Government.
The result of the election was: — Lady Iveagh (Con.) 21,221 Dougall Weston (Lib.) ..... 11,912 J. Harper (Lab.) 4.777 E. Hailwood (Independent) . 917
The new Lord Iveagh and his wife are extremely popular in the Southend electorate. Formerly Lady Gwendolen Onslow, the Countess of Iveagh is the eldest daughter of the Fourth Earl of Onslow, a former Governor of New Zealand, and a sister of the present Lord Onslow, UnderGAuetaoin etaoin etaoin etaoin n nnnnnn Secretary for War.
