TROUBLE MAY SPREAD
Work On Oversea Ships To
Cease At 5 p.m.
AUSTRALIAN DECISION.
(Received 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. The management committee of the Waterside Workers' Federation has decided to begin another overtime strike on the wharves in all the ports of Australia.
This decision, which is the result of an abortive conference between the federation and the Oversea Representatives' Association to discuss the new claims of watersiders, will apply to oversea ships only and will take effect to-day, the men refusing work after five o'clock in the afternoon.
All oversea ships will be affected, including those under foreign register, and a considerable delay In the shipment of cargoes will result.
No decision so far has been reached by the federation with regard to interState shipping, but should these also be included it will be necessary for the federation to obtain the support of the Seamen's Union and other organisations on the waterfront.
As the wool shipping is now at its height shippers will be greatly affected.
