THE POUND STERLING. FURTHER RISE IN NEW YORK. NEW YORK, November 19. On the Stock Exchange to-day the price of sterling cable transfers advanced to 4 dollars 87 13-16 cents, the highest since 1914. There was an extremely heavy turnover. The demand originated chiefly in London. The belief that gold will shortly be moved from New York to London has been strengthened. NAVAL MEAT CONTRACT. NEW ZEALAND INSTALMENT. LONDON, November 18. Messrs. Borthwick and Company have obtained upwards of 96 per cent of the Navy meat contract for Mediterranean ports. The firm says it does not anticipate any difficulty in commanding adequate supplies. The contract permits of Australian or New Zealand meat. If it should run short of one supply, it will use the other.
