CHURCH SERVICES.

BROADCASTING FROPOSALS.

PRESBYTERIANS INTERESTED

CONFERENCE WITH COMPANY. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The position of the Presbyterian Churches in relation to the broadcasting of religious services was briefly reviewed at last night's session of the General Assembly by the Rev. W. McLean, convener of the life and work committee. In moving that a committee be set up to represent the assembly at a conference with the Broadcasting Company, Mr. McLean said he had been able to obtain a good deal of information from the general manager of the company. He had also interviewed the Anglican Bishop of Christchurch, who was most willing to co-operate in the matter. He knew that there were some people who felt that the broadcasting of religious services might lead to decreased attendances at public worship. There might be a few who would stay away, but the services would reach a much larger unseen congregation. They would reach many people who would not attend church services, and others who, owins to distance and other reasons, were not able to attend. Each denomination was to be given its turn, no congnisance being taken of the numerical strength of the churches. He had noticed that the Anglican Synod in Auckland proposed to establish a broadcasting station of its own. but his opinion was that there was enough denominationalism already on the land without the air getting full of it. The proposed Auckland station would cost £8000 to erect, and would be, he considered, a waste of monev.

The Rev. D. Sutherland Morrison (Auckland) said it was only fair to the Anglican Synod in Auckland to state that while it was desirous of establishing its own broadcasting station it was very willing and very keen to co-operate with other churches.

Mr. McLean's motion was carried.
