LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH.
CARLAW PARK ATTRACTIONS.
RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYED.
A very attractive programme of football has been arranged by the Auckland Rugby League for next Saturday, when the proceeds will be devoted to the Mayor's unemployment relief fund. Chief among the games is a challenge match between Ponsonby, the club champion team, and Devonport. It will be remembered that the championship games were played under unusually wet conditions, and the Devonport team, one of Ponsonby's chief rivals, has challenged the champion side. In view of the fact that the teams have not previously met under dry-day conditions there is a great deal of interest in the result of the challenge, and the Ponsonby players are leaving no stone unturned to guard against defeat.
As a curtain-raiser an old-timers' match is being put on, in which noted players of other days will make a reappearance. One side will be captained «L " 0 ? ai " Ashe r and the other by Shaver" Hardgrave.
Co-operating with the Rugby League tor the unemployment fund, the Amateur Athletic Association has arranged to put on a preliminary programme of three running events, the first of which will start at 2 p.m. The teams for the Old-timers' match, startins at 2.45 p.m. (referee, Mr. A. Ball), are:—
