NOT A LOTTERY.
Marriage is spoken of sometimes as a lottery. It is no more a lottery than life. We get out of life just what we put into it. The same is true of marriage. Happiness.in the home is not a matter of chance. We get a crop of happiness just as the farmer gets a crop of wheat or potatoes—by working hard to get it. ' The farmer has in some seasons bad weather to contend with that may damage his crops. It may even spoil one altogether. But that does not put the farmer out of business. Nor need the hail of misf9rtunc, the gusty breezes of ill-temper, chill penury or scorching wealth cause lasting discord between husbands and wives.
A man and a woman who are healthy, sensible, good-natured, with fairly similar tastes and a readiness to make allowances where they think differently, are bound to make marriage a happy partnership if, they try. The/ must not think of it as a lottery. They must not suppose that its success depends on chance. • It depends entirely ori themselves and on their determination to make it successful. —L.C.
