BRITISH CARS IN 1928.
EXPLORING NEW MARKETS
Preliminary announcements of 192S programmes reveal the interesting fact that the trade is following one of two divergent courses, says a British correspondent. Those makers with well-established i and popular cars are concentrating on ! those models incorporating minor improvements, and in some cases reducing the price- ° Other makers, whether wisely or not remains to be seen, are attempting raids on markets where certain cars are already popularly established. No one can blame the manufacturer for endeavouring to explore new markets, but it might appear that the wiser plan would be to concentrate on a market which has already been established. Although one hears rumours of new models, information is available that those cars which have enjoyed popularity in the past will be continued for 1928 with very slight modifications in design and practically no alteration in price. The time has now passed when radical changes in design and price are made just prior to the Olympia Show. Both and prices are now practically stabilised, and there is now no necessity for prospective purchasers to wait till October before placing their orders for next season's models.
This stabilisation is greatly to the benefit of the trade. In the past, the manufacturer has had to cope with a flood of orders in the early spring, which gradually died away as the season progressed, with the result that it was very difficult to arrange the manufacturing programme. Now, when very few variations are made in design and price, orders arrive more steadily, and the manufacturer is thus in a better position to organise his output, and the purchaser gains the benefit in reduced prices and better qualitv.
