THAMES SWEEPSTAKES.

Thames Rod and Gun Club held its opening shoot for the season on Saturday. Results:— No. 1 Sweepstake, 7 birds.—W. R. Smith: 1, S. Miller 2, G. Shaw 3. No. 2 Sweepstake, 7 birds.—S. Sparke I,' Or. Ligglns and S. Miller 2. No. 3 Sweepstake, 7 birds.—W. R. Smith 1, W. Sparke, Or. Ligglns, E. Thornton and S Miller (equal) 2. No. 4 Sweepstake, 7 birds.—S. Miller and W. R. Smith tied for first place. The shoot-off resulted: Miller 1, Smith 2. No. 5 Sweepstake (Gimcrack). —Dr. Ligglns 1, S. Miller, W. Sparkle, E. Thornton and W. R. Smith (equal) 2.

MATAMATA MATCHES. At the Matamata Gun Club clay bird shoot on Mr. Green's property on Saturday the results were:— First Sweep, 8 entries, 5 birds.—E. Green, Main, Cameron and C. Green tied with the possible and divided the stakes. Second Sweep, 8 entries, 6 birds.—E. Green (possible) 1, J. Amundsen 2. Third Sweep, 7 entries, 6 birds.—E. Green, C. Green and J. Amundsen shot the possible and divided the stakes. Fourth Sweep, 6 entries, 6 birds.—C. Green (possible) 1, Cameron and Main (equal) 2. In a shoot-off Cameron won second place. Fifth Sweep, 6 entries, 5 birds.—Main and E. Green tied for first place with one miss each. The shoot-off resulted in Main winning. The afternoon was Ideal for shooting and the shooting on the whole was very gooil. Mr. Main, of the Okoroire Club, was the only outside competitor and gave a good account of himself.
