EXIT ALLOWAY.

0. Browne leaves for Otaki to-night to ride Haromea and other horses. Arch Queen ran two fair races ,at the Avondale meeting, and has been working well in the interval. She appeared to handle the heavy ground in good style, and under the same conditions would have a show in minor hack company. Star Stranger has been coming on well since his arrival at Ellerslie, and after his gallop with Star God this morning on the course proper, he is sure to come into favour for the Mitchelson Cup. He ran a round in 2.4, with the trestles well out and galloped well all the way. Hamulus, what won the Breeders' Plate at Randwick yesterday, is a full brother to Bampion, who proved himself the best two-year-old of his year, and as a three-year-old beat Limerick in both the A.J.C. and,V.R.C. Derbies. Like Rampion, Hamulus was making his first appearance in the Breeder's Plate, and won at the first time of asking.

Limerick figures among the entries for the Champion Plate to be decided at Trentham this month. Arikiwai, another of F. D. Jopes' team, who is at present racingin Australia, is also engaged at the same meeting, and it looks as though Jones intends to come straight back to New Zealand after the A.J.C. meeting. Royal Tea, who has done most of his racing In Australia, has joined the active brigade at Ellerslie, and was out doing trotting exercise on the tan track this morning. The Tea Tray gelding is carrying a lot of condition just at present, nevertheless' he has grown into a fine looking horse, and if he produces his Australian form is sure to win some good races.

Pegaway will have his first run this season at the Waikato spring meeting, which opens at Te Rapa on October 21. The Lucullus gelding developed into a good handica'p performer last season, and was one .of the most improved horses around the country. From a win in the Orakau Hack race at the Waipa meeting, in December last, he went on and won the Plunket Handicap at Ellerslie, Puketutu and Waitomo Handicaps at Te Kuiti, Hemes Memorial Cup at Te Aroha, and the President's Handicap at the Auckland Racing Club's autumn meeting ,in April, capturing in stake-money a total of £1985.

The Flying Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday is very open at present, but t>l£re are a number engaged in it who have been paid up for in the Shorts Handicap. These incltide Civility, Grand, Knight, Kiosk and Master Doon, and when the field, for the latter event parade it will probably be found that gome of those. mentioned . are starters. Lysander ran a great nee- in the Eclipse Stakes and shofald be an improved horse now. King Lu won well over seven furlongs at the Avondale meeting, bait he has an extra 71b to carry, on Saturday. King Smdok scored over six furlongs at tlie- same meeting, while Sir Archie won the chief sprint event on the second day. Day Guard finished. third in the Membets' Handicap to King Smock and WaHzer, and Gala 6ay won the Xihotupu -Handicap, seven furlongs. Hipo annexed the Flying Handicap, six furlongs', at the .W. nganui Hunt meeting, while Archeno was third in. the Fcr:1«:-son Handicap and Golden Kriat :.l in «!-*» Plumpton Handicap at the -w!■ im :■ Ung. There is: plenty; of .( IUuoL liucicsting race.

INJURES FETLOCK GALLOPING.

When galloping at Ellerslie this morning in company with Mask, Alloway broke a fetlock, and had to be destroyed. The pair were running seven furlongs on the course proper, and about a furlong from the post something appeared to go wrong with Alloway. Nearing the post he came right over on Mask,

and a little later when Mask was dear of him he came over farther, and nearly ran into one of the trestles that are placed on the course to confine the galloping to the outside. H. Wiggins, his rider, immediately pulled him up, and on examination it was found that Alioway had broken one of his front? fetlocks and he was destroyed.

The death of Alloway at this juncture was very unfortunate for his owner, for he gave promise of turning out a very useful sort this season. He ran two sterling races at Wanganui, just getting beaten each day, and when brought north for the Avondale meeting he gave promise of being very hard to dispose of, but the going was against him. Sine? then Alloway has been going along well in his training work, and he would have stripped a very fit horse for the Auckland spring meeting if he had not met with the accident.
