KILLED BY ENGINE.
WOMAN WALKS ON TO LINE.
VERDICT AT INQUEST.
. -Th© inquest was held this -morning before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt S.M., concerning the death of Florence Cookson, aged 58, who died in the Auckland Hospital on September 18 as the result of injuries sustained the previous day through being struck by a railway engine on the Gladstone Road. crossing Mount Albert.
The evidence showed that deceased had been walking with her umbrella up because of the rain. She walked till half-way between the rails before she seemed to notice the train. It was then too late, and the cowcatcher caught her. The whistle of the engine was sounded three times, and the warning bell was ringing, and the wig-wag was waving. °
A verdict of accidental death was returned.
