RUGBY LEAGUE.
STILL IN DOUBT.
VISIT OF ST. GEORGE TEAM. OTHER MATCHES BOD6HT. INVITATION TO BULLER. The cabled decision of the St. George Club, of Sydney, that, on the score of finance, ita team could not come to Auckland, was discussed at a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, when the secretary (Mr. I. Culpan) said that a reply had been sent asking what amount of guarantee was required. "Is there any limit for us to go to set them here?" asked Mr. W. J. Davidson. The chairman (Mr. Geo. Rhodes) said that he thought that there was, and personally he was not in favour of giving more than the £400 that was guaranteed. Mr. E. Stallworthy said that he did not look at it that way, as there was another aspect. He did not think that they should Btop at £500. It would pay well at that figure. The spectators would like to see some new team playing. Mr. C. Adamson suggested that should the St. George visit not materialise, an invitation should be sent to the Buller representative team to play in Auckland. That was the best team in the South Island. Several of the delegates supported this Jtroposal, Mr. P. Deere stating that he beieved that the Buller League would accept the invitation. The team would be a big attraction In Auckland. It was decided to await a reply to the communication sent to the St. George team, and on receipt of it to call a special meeting. It was also decided to Invite the Buller representative team to play In Auckland in the event of the Sydney team not coming. | and to offer them a 60 per cent of the "gate." It was further resolved that I should a Saturday be vacant, to advance the playing date of the match with South ! Auckland.
